How is your multitasking ability?

Are you able to multitask? I sure can’t. You would think that after I have failed over and over again when I multitask, that I would learn my lesson. But, I don’t.

Situation.Today, when I was trying to cook some Brussels sprouts, I poured some coconut oil in the skillet and turned the stove on to medium. I walked away to my bedroom because I was busy trying to get this blog up and running.

About 10 minutes later, I was still in my room, and I had forgotten about the fact that I had turned on the stove. I then started to smell something strange, like something burning. I hurried to the kitchen where smoke was filling up the kitchen and the dining room.

I turned off the stove and soaked the pan and scrubbed and scrubbed until I got it clean.

But it did not stop there. I had to open all the windows of the house and turned on the ceiling fans.  My son came up the stairs and asked, “Mom, what is the horrible smell?” I have to admit, I did feel like answering him at that moment.

After the smoke disappeared, I tried once again to place some Carrington Farms  coconut oil in the pan, which by the way, is my favorite brand of coconut oil 🙂 I then placed the Brussels sprouts in the pan.

Then, I proceeded to walk away again. I went back to my room to continue working on my laptop.  Ten minutes later, I went back to the kitchen and my Brussels sprouts were burning. I scraped the burnt Brussels sprouts onto a plate. I soaked the pan again, and scraped the pan, again. See how well I cleaned my pan 🙂

Thoughts and feelings. I am losing my memory. It must be the beginning of dementia!

Truth. I am a type 2 person, according to Carol Tuttle from Living your Truth, which means I should only be focusing on one thing at a time. Type 3 women, like my sister, are more likely to have success multitasking 🙂

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Psalms 139: 14

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me. O God! How great is the sum of them! Psalms 139: 17

This is the way God made me. I am fearfully and wonderfully made by God. He made me for a purpose. He loves me just the way I am. Even when I burn perfectly good Brussels sprouts.

This was not a one-time occurrence of burning food and my pans. There have been countless times I have burned food. It seems to happen more frequently when my children are interrupting my attempt to cook supper. Or I step outside to do something, and forget that I turned the stove on.

Outcome. Lesson learned: Stay in the kitchen the entire time I am cooking. Also, bring the laptop to the kitchen with me so I don’t burn any more food…or pans.

Do you have success multitasking? Do you truly believe that you have been fearfully and wonderfully made by God?
