Have you ever prayed and asked God for something that you thought you needed? How many times has God not answered your prayers immediately when you wanted them to be answered?
When my pain started in October of 2016, I prayed that God would help me find an answer as to what was causing my pain and for healing. God did not answer my prayers immediately.
For the past 3 years, I had been praying that God would help me find something to do from home to bring in an income so I did not have to leave my children. God answered my prayer to stay at home, but not in the way that I was thinking He would answer.
Instead, God gave me patience, love, compassion, humility, and rest. I was not praying daily for these things. I was praying for healing. God knew that what I desperately needed at the time was not healing.
As I went from doctor to doctor and getting a variety of diagnoses, I became frustrated and discouraged. I spent time in God’s Word daily and cried and prayed that God would take away my pain.
Finally, this past month, I found a doctor who seemed willing to help me. The week after the doctor did 3 injections in my back was another discouraging week, as I waited for him to call me back.
After three days of trying to call him to find out what the plan would be, I decided to take things into my own hands and get it figured out. I was tired of waiting. I set up an appointment with my chiropractor, I called North American Spine to see if they could perform surgery before the end of the year, I set up an appointment with another surgeon who specialized in lumbar pain.
Finally, on Friday my doctor called me back. I told him that I did not want any more injections. All I wanted was surgery to correct the problem. He agreed to my plan and had me set up for surgery before the end of the year.
So, December 19th, I had my pre-op visit with my primary doctor, and on the 26th, I had my surgery. I came through surgery without complications. As soon as I started walking, I had no more left leg pain!
It would be so easy for me to be angry at all the other doctors who I went to and would not help me. The neurosurgeon who said that he could not do anything for me. The doctor who just wanted me to take gabapentin for the rest of my life. The neurologist who did not want to get to the root of the problem.
But God was in control the entire time. He always answers prayer in His own time. Many times, over the last year, I felt that God did not care and that He had left me. Instead, He was right beside me the entire time, teaching me what I needed to learn. “Fear thou not; for I am with thee…” (Isaiah 41:10)
How many times had I quoted Isaiah 40:31 to someone who was becoming impatient for God to answer their prayers? I needed to be reminded of that verse again and again.
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
Have you been praying and asking God for something that you desperately want? Have you become discouraged wondering if God will ever answer your prayer?
Here are some verses from God’s Word that have helped me as I have waited for God’s timing:
“…and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1)
“…for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Hebrews 13:5)
“…and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:29)
I was reading last week from “Jesus Calling”, the following paragraph was just what I needed to read:
“Sometimes the road you are traveling seems blocked…Then, when time is right, the way before you suddenly clears–through no effort of your own. What you have longed for and worked for I present to you freely, as pure gift.”
Rest in God’s promises, trust Him, and have faith that He will answer your prayers. God’s timing is just right!
